Electrician Degree, Certificate and Diploma Options

Fackler AL electrician on power line poleThere are multiple approaches to obtain electrician training in a trade or technical school near Fackler AL. You can enroll in a certificate or diploma program, or obtain an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are available at a few schools, but are not as common as the first three options. Often these programs are made available combined with an apprenticeship program, which are mandated by most states to be licensed or if you would like to earn certification. Bellow are short summaries of the three most common programs offered.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are generally provided by Alabama vocational and trade schools and take approximately a year to complete. They furnish a solid foundation and are geared towards those who want to enter an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs involve 2 years to complete and are provided by Alabama community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They offer a more extensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to begin their apprenticeship program.

As earlier stated, Bachelor’s Degrees are accessible at certain Alabama institutions, but are less preferred at four years than the other briefer programs. Most states mandate that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and in most cases four years be completed prior to licensing. For that reason, most students are eager to commence their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not a component of their educational program.

Receiving certification is also an optional method for an electrician to distinguish her or himself as a experienced and skilled professional. The certifications available vary by state and can be obtained in several specializations, including cable splicing as an example. • Passing a written exam
  • Passing a practical exam
