Electrician Diploma, Certificate and Degree Programs

Trapper Creek AK electrician on power line poleThere are several approaches to receive electrician training in a trade or technical school near Trapper Creek AK. You may select a certificate or diploma program, or obtain an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at some schools, but are not as common as the other three alternatives. Often these programs are offered in conjunction with an apprenticeship program, which are required by the majority of states in order to be licensed or if you would like to earn certification. Following are brief explanations of the three most common programs offered.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are usually provided by Alaska technical and trade schools and take about a year to complete. They provide a solid foundation and are aimed towards those who want to get into an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees require 2 years to complete and are offered by Alaska community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They provide a more comprehensive education while providing the foundation that prepares students to enter into their apprenticeship program.

As previously mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are accessible at certain Alaska colleges, but are less favored at 4 years than the other briefer programs. Many states require that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and more typically four years be carried out prior to licensing. Because of that, many students are anxious to commence their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not part of their academic program.

Obtaining certification is also an optional means for an electrician to differentiate him or herself as a experienced and skilled professional. The certifications offered vary by state and can be earned in several specialties, such as cable splicing as an example. The certification procedure usually entails 3 levels of proficiency:
