Electrician Diploma, Certificate and Degree Programs

Strathmore CA electrician on power line poleThere are multiple options to obtain electrician instruction in a technical or vocational school near Strathmore CA. You may select a certificate or diploma program, or obtain an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at a few schools, but are not as common as the other three options. Frequently these programs are made available together with an apprenticeship, which are required by most states in order to be licensed or if you intend to earn certification. Bellow are short explanations of the 3 most common programs available.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are typically offered by California vocational and trade schools and require about a year to finish. They furnish a good foundation and are geared towards individuals who would like to join an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees require 2 years to finish and are provided by California junior or community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They offer a more comprehensive education while supplying the foundation that prepares students to begin their apprenticeship program.

As previously mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are offered at some California institutions, but are less preferred at four years than the other briefer programs. Many states mandate that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and in most cases 4 years be performed before licensing. Therefore, most students are eager to start their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not part of their educational program.

Receiving certification is also an optional means for an electrician to identify her or himself as a experienced and skilled professional. The certifications available vary by state and can be earned in various specialties, such as cable splicing as an example. • An experience requirement
  • Passing a written exam
  • Passing a practical exam

Examples of certifying agencies include the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) and also the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET). It’s important that the electrician tech school that you select not only delivers a strong academic foundation, but also helps prep you for passing any certification and licensing examinations that you may be required to take in the future.
