Washingtonville, Ohio

Washingtonville is a village in Columbiana and Mahoning counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 801 at the 2010 census. Southern Washingtonville is included in the Salem, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area, while northern Washingtonville is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 801 people, 323 households, and 225 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,195.5 inhabitants per square mile (461.6/km2). There were 358 housing units at an average density of 534.3 per square mile (206.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.0% White, 0.9% African American, 0.1% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.5% of the population.

There were 323 households of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.0% were married couples living together, 19.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 30.3% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.92.

West Chester, Ohio

West Chester was laid out and platted in 1814.[1] An old variant name of West Chester was Cadwallader.[2] A post office called Cadwallader was established in 1828, and remained in operation until 1918.[3]

Westerville, Ohio

Westerville is a city in Delaware and Franklin counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is a northeastern suburb of Columbus. The population was 36,120 at the 2010 census. Westerville is the home of Otterbein University.

The land that is today Westerville was first settled by Europeans around 1810. In 1818, Matthew, Peter, and William Westervelt, settlers of Dutch extraction, migrated to the area from New York. Matthew Westervelt donated land for the construction of a Methodist church in 1836, and the settlement was subsequently named in the family's honor.[6] In 1839, the Blendon Young Men's Seminary was chartered in Westerville;[7] Matthew Westervelt was one of its first trustees.[8] The Church of the United Brethren in Christ bought the seminary in 1846,[9] and the next year the seminary was reformed, and renamed Otterbein College after the church's founder Philip William Otterbein. It continues today in Westerville as the private Otterbein University.[10]

Throughout the Antebellum era, several homes in Westerville were stations on the Underground Railroad. Among these is the Hanby House, located one block from the college. Benjamin Russell Hanby had moved to Westerville in 1849, at the age of sixteen, to enroll at Otterbein University.[12] Hanby went on to write many familiar hymns and songs, among them "Darling Nelly Gray" (inspired by his sympathy for Southern slaves[13]), "Who is He in Yonder Stall?", and the Christmas favorite "Up On The Housetop". His home in Westerville, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was dedicated as a museum in 1937[14] and is now owned by the Ohio Historical Society and managed locally by the Westerville Historical Society. It is the only state memorial to a composer in the state of Ohio.

Williamsport, Ohio

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.84 square miles (4.77 km2), of which 1.81 square miles (4.69 km2) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 km2) is water.[1]

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 1,023 people, 342 households, and 272 families residing in the village. The population density was 565.2 inhabitants per square mile (218.2/km2). There were 377 housing units at an average density of 208.3 per square mile (80.4/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.3% of the population.

There were 342 households of which 50.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 17.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 20.5% were non-families. 17.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.99 and the average family size was 3.30.

Woodstock '94

Woodstock '94 was a music festival organized in 1994 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival of 1969. It was promoted as "2 More Days of Peace and Music". The poster used to promote the first concert was revised to feature two doves perched on the neck of an electric guitar, instead of the original acoustic one.

The 1994 concert was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14,[1] with a third day (Friday, August 12) added later. Tickets to the festival cost $135 each.[2] The weather was rainy that weekend, and by Saturday much of the field had turned into mud.

Though only 164,000 tickets were sold,[3] the crowd at Woodstock '94 was estimated at 550,000.[4] The size of the crowd was larger than concert organizers had planned for and by the second night many of the event policies were logistically unenforceable. The major issues related to security, when attendees arrived, left or returned to the site, and the official concert food-beverage-vendor policy initially restricting attendees from entering with supplies of food, drinks and above all, alcohol. With the concert site mostly enclosed by simple chain link fences, there was hardly any difficulty for many attendees to enter freely along with carrying beer and other banned items. The security staff, along with the entrance and exit staff, could not continue reasonable monitoring of increasingly vast numbers entering, exiting, inspecting, while at the same time maintaining safety, security and peaceful atmosphere.

New Waterford, Ohio

New Waterford is a village in Unity Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,238 at the 2010 census. New Waterford is located in the Salem, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area, as well as the southern regions of the greater Mahoning Valley.

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 1,238 people, 513 households, and 348 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,391.0 inhabitants per square mile (537.1/km2). There were 558 housing units at an average density of 627.0 per square mile (242.1/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.1% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.6% of the population.

There were 513 households of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 32.2% were non-families. 29.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.94.

West Elkton, Ohio

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 197 people, 76 households, and 55 families residing in the village. The population density was 339.7 inhabitants per square mile (131.2/km2). There were 86 housing units at an average density of 148.3 per square mile (57.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.0% White, 0.5% African American, 1.5% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 0.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.5% of the population.

There were 76 households of which 39.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 10.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 27.6% were non-families. 23.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 2.98.

The median age in the village was 39.3 years. 24.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 9.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26.4% were from 25 to 44; 25.9% were from 45 to 64; and 14.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 54.8% male and 45.2% female.

Westfield World Trade Center

Westfield World Trade Center is a shopping center at the World Trade Center complex in Manhattan, New York, that is operated and managed by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. The mall opened on August 16, 2016 as the largest shopping complex in Manhattan, with 125 retail spaces. It replaces the Mall at the World Trade Center, the underground shopping mall under the original World Trade Center, which was destroyed on September 11, 2001.

The Mall at the World Trade Center was an indoor underground shopping mall that was located in the concourse area of the original World Trade Center complex. Most of the mall was located underneath 4 and 5 World Trade Center, as well as under the Austin J. Tobin Plaza. Completed in 1975, it was the largest shopping mall in New York City, and was managed by the Westfield Group. The main entrance was located on the south side of 4 World Trade Center facing Liberty Street with escalators going down into the concourse. The other entrance was located on the east side of 5 World Trade Center facing Church Street. The mall was also accessible from the lobbies of the Twin Towers, and it served as the point of access or transfer to the Chambers Street–World Trade Center subway station on the A, ​C, and ​E trains. PATH trains intersected in the basement levels, which were located under the mall.

The mall included eateries as well as approximately 80 stores, including Duane Reade, Gap, Sam Goody, Victoria's Secret, and the Warner Bros. Studio Store. Thousands of people traveled through the mall daily.

Grant County, Kentucky

Grant County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 24,662.[1] Its county seat is Williamstown.[2] The county was formed in 1820 and named for Colonel John Grant,[3] who led a party of settlers in 1779 to establish Grant's Station, in today's Bourbon County, Kentucky.

Grant County residents voted to allow full alcohol sales in the county by a margin of 56% to 44% in a special election on December 22, 2015.[4] In the 19th century, Grant County contained multiple saloons.[5]

The Grant County News, established in 1906 and published in Williamstown, is preserved on microfilm by the University of Kentucky Libraries. The microfilm holdings are listed in a master negative database on the UK Libraries Preservation and Digital Programs website.[6]

Woodville, Ohio

Woodville was the midway point on the Western Reserve and Maumee Turnpike, which was also known as the "Old Mud Pike" because of the thick mud that often mired animals and vehicles alike. It was the first permanent route across the Black Swamp. The toll road connected Perrysburg with Lower Sandusky, which has since been renamed Fremont.

A mile marker from the road remains at 100 East Main Street, in front of the village pharmacy. Several of the milestones are still in place along the 31 miles (50 km) stretch between present day Fremont and Perrysburg. The route is currently designated U.S. Route 20.

Woodville is also the point at which U.S. 20 crosses the Portage River. The former Pennsylvania Railroad also crossed the Portage River in Woodville. The line was at one time a main route from Toledo to Pittsburgh.
