Electrician Diploma, Certificate and Degree Programs

Thayer MO electrician on power line poleThere are several options to obtain electrician instruction in a vocational or trade school near Thayer MO. You can enroll in a diploma or certificate program, or earn an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are offered at certain schools, but are not as common as the other three alternatives. Often these programs are made available together with an apprenticeship program, which are required by the majority of states to become licensed or if you want to earn certification. Following are short summaries of the three most typical programs offered.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are usually provided by Missouri trade and technical schools and take approximately a year to complete. They provide a good foundation and are geared towards those who wish to enter an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs take two years to complete and are provided by Missouri junior or community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more well-rounded education while supplying the foundation that readies students to enter into their apprenticeship program.

As previously mentioned, Bachelor’s Degrees are available at some Missouri institutions, but are less preferred at four years than the other briefer programs. Most states mandate that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and in most cases four years be completed before licensing. Because of that, the majority of students are eager to begin their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not a component of their educational program.
