Electrician Certificate, Diploma and Degree Options

Willard NM electrician on power line poleThere are multiple ways to receive electrician training in a vocational or trade school near Willard NM. You can enroll in a diploma or certificate program, or earn an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are available at a few schools, but are not as prevalent as the other three alternatives. In many cases these programs are made available together with an apprenticeship, which are mandated by the majority of states to become licensed or if you intend to earn certification. Following are brief descriptions of the 3 most common programs offered.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are typically offered by New Mexico vocational and trade schools and require approximately a year to complete. They furnish a good foundation and are aimed towards students who would like to join an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees involve two years to complete and are offered by New Mexico junior or community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more extensive education while supplying the foundation that prepares students to join their apprenticeship program.

As earlier mentioned, Bachelor’s Degrees are available at some New Mexico institutions, but are less favored at 4 years than the other briefer programs. Many states require that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and more typically 4 years be carried out prior to licensing. For that reason, the majority of students are eager to commence their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not part of their academic program.
