Ethan SD electrician on power line poleThere are several ways to obtain electrician training in a trade or technical school near Ethan SD. You may enroll in a certificate or diploma program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at a few schools, but are not as common as the first three options. Often these programs are offered together with an apprenticeship program, which are required by the majority of states in order to be licensed or if you want to become certified. Following are short explanations of the 3 most common programs available.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are usually offered by South Dakota trade and technical schools and take about a year to complete. They furnish a good foundation and are aimed towards students who wish to enter an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees involve 2 years to finish and are provided by South Dakota community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more comprehensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to join their apprenticeship program.

As earlier mentioned, Bachelor’s Degree programs are available at some South Dakota institutions, but are less popular at 4 years than the other briefer programs. Many states require that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and in most cases 4 years be performed before licensing. Therefore, most students are eager to start their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not part of their educational program.
