Willard, New Mexico

Willard is a village in Torrance County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 240 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village is not experiencing the same extreme growth that towns farther north in the state are. A wind farm has recently been constructed upon the mesa just south of the town. It provides power for about 25,000 homes in Arizona.[1]

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 240 people, 96 households, and 60 families residing in the village. The population density was 310.5 people per square mile (120.3/km²). There were 115 housing units at an average density of 148.8 per square mile (57.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 50.42% White, 0.83% African American, 1.25% Native American, 45.83% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 83.33% of the population.

There were 96 households out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% were non-families. 35.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.28.

Williamsburg, New Mexico

Williamsburg is a village in Sierra County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 527 at the 2000 census. The village, though small, is located conveniently adjacent to Truth or Consequences, and has essentially become a suburb. Though the town is experiencing moderate growth now, especially along I-25, in the near future there is a high possibility of its becoming a booming bedroom community for lakesiders from Elephant Butte.

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 527 people, 264 households, and 153 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,096.2 people per square mile (423.9/km2). There were 345 housing units at an average density of 717.6 per square mile (277.5/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 91.84% White, 1.71% African American, 0.76% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 1.90% from other races, and 3.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.09% of the population.

There were 264 households out of which 15.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.9% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.7% were non-families. 35.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.00 and the average family size was 2.51.

Winston Blackmore

Winston Blackmore (born August 25, 1956)[1] is the leader of a polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints group in Canada. He is described as "Canada's best-known avowed polygamist".[2]

Winston Blackmore was born into the first family on August 25, 1956. Winston Blackmore's father, Ray Blackmore, had six wives and 31 children. Winston Blackmore's mother was Anna Mae, Ray's first and only legal wife, and the family's powerful matriarch. Winston was her fifth son and the ninth of her 13 children.

For two decades, Blackmore was the bishop of the Bountiful, British Columbia, group of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS Church), a polygamist community in the Creston Valley. Upon the death of Rulon Jeffs, Winston Blackmore was considered to be one of two potential successors for the role of the president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the other potential successor being Warren Jeffs. Winston had support that was equal or on-par to Jeffs.[3] Warren Jeffs ultimately succeeded his father Rulon, largely due to having played an increasingly significant role in the church during the period up to Rulon's death.

Yah-ta-hey, New Mexico

Yah-ta-hey (Navajo: Tʼáá Bííchʼį́įdii) is a census-designated place (CDP) in McKinley County, New Mexico, United States. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 580. The English name for this place is an approximation of a Navajo greeting, though the actual Navajo name means "like the devil", in reference to J.B. Tanner who operated the trading post located here; the same name is used for Aneth, Utah, where Tanner also worked.[1][2][3]

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 580 people, 156 households, and 138 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 146.3 people per square mile (56.6/km²). There were 180 housing units at an average density of 45.4 per square mile (17.6/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 69.31% Native American, 16.21% White, 0.34% Asian, 8.10% from other races, and 6.03% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 16.90% of the population.

There were 156 households out of which 51.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.0% were married couples living together, 24.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 10.9% were non-families. 9.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.72 and the average family size was 3.91.

Artesia, New Mexico

Artesia is a city in Eddy County, New Mexico, United States, centered at the intersection of U.S. Route 82 and U.S. Route 285; the two highways serve as the city's Main Street and First Street, respectively. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 11,301.[2]

The town assumed its present name in 1903, after the discovery of an artesian aquifer in the area; artesian wells for agriculture flourished in the area until the aquifer became significantly depleted in the 1920s. The city was officially incorporated in 1905. It is home to one of the two Strangite meeting places in the world.[3]

Artesia is located in northern Eddy County at 32°50′34″N 104°24′44″W / 32.84278°N 104.41222°W / 32.84278; -104.41222 (32.842744, -104.412315),[5] at an elevation of 3,380 feet (1,030 m). US 82 leads east 64 miles (103 km) to Lovington and west 110 miles (180 km) to Alamogordo, while US 285 leads north 40 miles (64 km) to Roswell and south 36 miles (58 km) to Carlsbad, the Eddy County seat.

Rio Arriba County, New Mexico

Rio Arriba County is a county in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, the population was 40,246.[1] Its county seat is Tierra Amarilla.[2] Its northern border is the Colorado state line.

The county was one of nine originally created for the Territory of New Mexico in 1852. Originally extending west to the California line, it included the site of present-day Las Vegas, Nevada.[3] The county seat was initially sited at San Pedro de Chamita, and shortly afterwards at Los Luceros. In 1860 the seat was moved to Plaza del Alcalde. Since 1880 Tierra Amarilla has been the county seat.[4]

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 5,896 square miles (15,270 km2), of which 5,861 square miles (15,180 km2) are land and 35 square miles (91 km2) (0.6%) are water.[5] It is the fifth-largest county in New Mexico by area. The highest point in the county is the summit of Truchas Peak at 13,102 feet (3,993 m).

Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico

Zuni Pueblo (Zuni: Shiwinna, also Zuñi Pueblo and Pueblo de Zuñi) is a census-designated place (CDP) in McKinley County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 6,302 as of the 2010 Census.[1] It is inhabited largely by members of the Zuni people.

The first contact with Europeans occurred in 1539 in the ancient village of Hawikku when Esteban, an Arab/Berber of Moroccan origin, entered Zuni territory seeking the fabled "Seven Cities of Cibola."[2]

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 6,367 people, 1,488 households, and 1,334 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 720.0 people per square mile (278.1/km²). There were 1,622 housing units at an average density of 183.4 per square mile (70.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.03% Native American, 2.12% White, 2.01% Hispanic or Latino, 0.03% African American, 0.03% Asian, 0.30% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races.

New Mexico State Road 7

New Mexico State Road 7 (NM 7) is a 7.199-mile-long (11.586 km) paved, two-lane state highway in Eddy County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. NM 7 east terminus is in Whites City at the road's junction with U.S. Route 62 and U.S. Route 180 which run concurrently at that location. The road travels mostly west from there in a somewhat winding path leading to Carlsbad Caverns National Park Visitors Center.

NM 7 starts at the intersection with US 62/US 180 in Whites City right across from Whites City Fire Department. The highway travels north-northwest through Whites City and after 0.5 miles (0.80 km) reaches the boundary of the Carlsbad Caverns National Park. From there the road follows the bottom of the Walnut Canyon winding through the northeastern end of the Guadalupe Ridge mountains slowly changing direction from northern to western. Shortly after passing a 5 mile mark, the highway turns sharply south climbing up the ridge, swings east and arrives at the Visitors Center.

The original Route 7 traveled between Route 1 in Alameda through San Ysidro and Jemez to Jemez Springs as can be seen on 1918 and 1923 maps. In 1927, a section between San Ysidro and Alameda was reassigned to Route 44. In 1929 the road was redesignated as Route 4.[3]

Lyndel Rowe

Ms. Rowe joined the Union Repertory Company (now the Melbourne Theatre Company) - in productions including Patrick White's Season at Sarsparilla, Waltz of the Toreadors, Arms and the Man, Ghost Train; toured Australia with J.C. Williamson's Goodnight Mrs. Puffin, with Irene Handl.

Travelling to England she studied at The Royal Court Theatre Studio, with George Devine and Keith Johnstone. Then a production with the International Theatre Company of The Seventh Seal (Painting on Wood). From there into repertory and into the company of a West End lunch-time theatre, TheatreScope, doing weekly seasons of one act Tennessee Williams, Ionesco, Anouilh etc.

San Rafael Group

The San Rafael Group is a geologic group or collection of related rock formations that is spread across the U.S. states of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. As part of the Colorado Plateau, this group of formations was laid down in the Middle Jurassic during the Bajocian, Bathonian and Callovian stages.[1]

There is no designated type locality for the group. It was named for exposures in the San Rafael Swell in Emery County, Utah by Gilluly and Reeside in 1928. That same year they divided the group into (ascending): Carmel Formation, Entrada Sandstone (new), Curtis Formation (new), and Summerville Formation (new). Areal extent limits were established by Gregory and Moore in 1931. Smith in 1954 revised and divided the group into Entrada, Todilto, and Thoreau (new) formations in the San Juan Basin. In 1959 another revision, this time by Griggs and Read, divided it into Entrada and Bell Ranch (new) formations in the Palo Duro Basin and Sierra Grande Uplift. The Carmel-Navajo contact was revised by Wright and others in 1962 and the Carmel-Entrada contact was revised by Phoenix in 1963. Thompson and Stokes created an overview and named the Henrieville Sandstone in 1970. The Temple Cap Sandstone was revised and the Page Sandstone added (new) by Peterson and Pipiringos in 1979. A revision by O'Sullivan in 1980 divided the group into Carmel, Entrada, and Wanakah formations in Paradox Basin. O'Sullivan revised the upper contact in 1984. In 1988 Peterson revised earlier work and divided the group into Page, Carmel, and Entrada formations in the Black Mesa Basin; divided it into Page, Carmel, Entrada and Romana (new) formations in the Plateau sedimentary province; and divided it into Page, Carmel, Entrada, Curtis, and Summerville formations in Paradox Basin. Condon in 1989 revised the group in San Juan Basin and divided it into Entrada and Wanakah formations in southeastern area; divided it into Entrada, Wanakah, and Cow Springs formations in south-central area; and divided it into Entrada and Cow Springs Sandstones in southwestern area.[2]
