Electrician Degree, Diploma and Certificate Programs

Hindman KY electrician on power line poleThere are multiple ways to receive electrician instruction in a trade or technical school near Hindman KY. You may enroll in a diploma or certificate program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at certain schools, but are not as common as the first three options. In many cases these programs are offered combined with an apprenticeship, which are mandated by most states in order to be licensed or if you wish to become certified. Following are short summaries of the three most typical programs available.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are usually provided by Kentucky vocational and trade schools and require approximately a year to complete. They furnish a good foundation and are geared towards individuals who would like to join an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs take two years to complete and are provided by Kentucky community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They provide a more extensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to join their apprenticeship program.

As previously stated, Bachelor’s Degrees are offered at certain Kentucky institutions, but are less favored at 4 years than the other shorter programs. Most states mandate that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and in most cases four years be performed before licensing. Because of that, many students are anxious to begin their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not a component of their educational program.
