Electrician Diploma, Certificate and Degree Options

Majestic KY electrician on power line poleThere are several approaches to receive electrician instruction in a vocational or trade school near Majestic KY. You can select a diploma or certificate program, or earn an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are available at some schools, but are not as prevalent as the other three options. Often these programs are offered in conjunction with an apprenticeship, which are mandated by most states in order to become licensed or if you want to earn certification. Following are brief summaries of the three most common programs offered.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are typically offered by Kentucky technical and trade schools and take approximately a year to finish. They furnish a good foundation and are geared towards individuals who wish to join an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs require 2 years to finish and are offered by Kentucky community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They offer a more well-rounded education while providing the foundation that prepares students to join their apprenticeship program.

As previously stated, Bachelor’s Degree programs are accessible at some Kentucky institutions, but are less preferred at four years than the other briefer programs. The majority of states require that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and in most cases four years be completed prior to licensing.
