Sidnaw MI electrician on power line poleThere are three general approaches to obtain electrician instruction in a technical or vocational school near Sidnaw MI. You can enroll in a certificate or diploma program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are available at a few schools, but are not as common as the first three alternatives. In many cases these programs are offered together with an apprenticeship program, which are required by most states to become licensed or if you wish to earn certification. Following are short summaries of the 3 most prevalent programs available.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are generally provided by Michigan vocational and trade schools and require approximately a year to complete. They provide a solid foundation and are geared towards individuals who wish to join an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees take 2 years to complete and are provided by Michigan community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more well-rounded education while supplying the foundation that readies students to join their apprenticeship program.

As previously stated, Bachelor’s Degree programs are available at certain Michigan colleges, but are less preferred at 4 years than the other briefer programs. Many states mandate that an apprenticeship of no less than 2 years and in most cases four years be performed prior to licensing. Therefore, many students are anxious to start their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not part of their educational program.
