Electrician Certificate, Diploma and Degree Programs

Haworth OK electrician on power line poleThere are multiple approaches to receive electrician training in a vocational or trade school near Haworth OK. You can select a certificate or diploma program, or obtain an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at a few schools, but are not as common as the first three alternatives. Often these programs are made available combined with an apprenticeship, which are mandated by most states in order to be licensed or if you would like to become certified. Following are short explanations of the 3 most common programs offered.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are typically provided by Oklahoma trade and technical schools and require approximately a year to complete. They furnish a good foundation and are geared towards those who would like to join an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degree Programs take 2 years to complete and are provided by Oklahoma community colleges, usually as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They provide a more comprehensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to join their apprenticeship program.

As previously mentioned, Bachelor’s Degrees are available at some Oklahoma institutions, but are less favored at four years than the other shorter programs. The majority of states mandate that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and in most cases four years be carried out prior to licensing. Therefore, the majority of students are anxious to commence their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not a component of their educational program.

Obtaining certification is also a voluntary means for an electrician to differentiate him or herself as a skilled and experienced professional. The certifications available differ by state and can be acquired in many specializations, including cable splicing as an example.
