Electrician Diploma, Certificate and Degree Options

Muleshoe TX electrician on power line poleThere are multiple approaches to get electrician training in a vocational or trade school near Muleshoe TX. You can select a diploma or certificate program, or earn an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at certain schools, but are not as common as the first three options. In many cases these programs are made available in conjunction with an apprenticeship, which are required by most states in order to become licensed or if you want to become certified. Following are brief explanations of the three most typical programs offered.

  • Diploma and Certificate Programs are typically offered by Texas vocational and trade schools and require approximately a year to finish. They furnish a good foundation and are geared towards students who wish to get into an apprenticeship more quickly as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees take 2 years to complete and are provided by Texas junior or community colleges, typically as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more comprehensive education while providing the foundation that readies students to enter into their apprenticeship program.

As earlier stated, Bachelor’s Degrees are accessible at certain Texas institutions, but are less popular at 4 years than the other shorter programs. The majority of states require that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and in most cases four years be performed before licensing. For that reason, most students are anxious to begin their paid apprenticeship, especially if it’s not a component of their educational program.
