Electrician Diploma, Certificate and Degree Options

Red Jacket WV electrician on power line poleThere are multiple options to get electrician instruction in a vocational or trade school near Red Jacket WV. You may enroll in a certificate or diploma program, or receive an Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degrees are obtainable at certain schools, but are not as common as the first three alternatives. Often these programs are made available combined with an apprenticeship program, which are required by most states to become licensed or if you wish to earn certification. Bellow are brief summaries of the 3 most prevalent programs available.

  • Certificate and Diploma Programs are usually offered by West Virginia vocational and trade schools and require approximately a year to complete. They furnish a solid foundation and are geared towards individuals who wish to enter an apprenticeship faster as a journeyman electrician.
  • Associate Degrees involve two years to complete and are offered by West Virginia community colleges, commonly as an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. They furnish a more comprehensive education while supplying the foundation that readies students to begin their apprenticeship program.

As earlier stated, Bachelor’s Degree programs are accessible at some West Virginia colleges, but are less preferred at four years than the other briefer programs. Most states mandate that an apprenticeship of at least 2 years and in most cases four years be carried out before licensing. Therefore, many students are eager to commence their paid apprenticeship, particularly if it’s not part of their educational program.

Receiving certification is also an optional method for an electrician to identify her or himself as a experienced and skilled professional. The certifications available vary by state and may be earned in many specialties, including cable splicing as an example.
